Geography Challenge

of
30

Thanks to a generous donor, once the Department of Geography receives 30 gifts during Day of the Badger, $2,000 will be unlocked.

This challenge has ended.

Geography is a rich and vibrant discipline, one that is essential to understanding the ever-changing world and all its people. Students in the Department of Geography use the skills they learn here to make the world a better place through careers in ecological restoration, digital and traditional cartography, geospatial data science, public health, environmental justice, international policy, sustainable agrifood systems, and much more.

As one of the top-ranking geography departments in the nation, we have a strong foundation — one we are building on as technology changes. In 2025, we began offering an undergraduate certificate in geospatial data science, opening a door into an increasingly important area of study.

Your gift, no matter the size, helps us create more outside-the-classroom opportunities for students across all geographical disciplines, including:

  • Sending students on geographical adventures, from mapmaking conferences in Vienna to independent field work in northern Alaska and beyond
  • Supporting their attendance at professional meetings like the Association of American Geographers’ yearly conference, where they can network, learn, display their work, and win awards
  • Creating events like Career Conversations with Geographers, where alumni shed light on how the geographer’s unique skillset can translate to interesting and fulfilling careers

We appreciate your support as we help shape the next generation of geographers!

Gifts will be contributed to the Department of Geography Fund – 132411460 at the University of Wisconsin Foundation.
